Adult Companion Services

Adult companion services provide non-medical care, supervision, and social interaction for individuals aged 18 or older.

What’s Covered
These services support a person in working toward therapeutic or community integration goals outlined in their support plan.

Examples of Covered Support:
An adult companion may:

  • Attend a movie with the person to help them practice coping strategies for social anxiety

  • Accompany the person to community events to reduce social isolation

  • Play board games to support fine motor skill development

  • Offer verbal prompts or cues to help complete tasks

  • Assist or supervise light tasks such as laundry, meal prep, housekeeping, or shopping (see secondary info section for details)

What’s Not Covered
Adult companion services do not include:

  • Costs for activities (e.g., movie tickets)

  • Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

  • Hands-on nursing or medical care

  • Services delivered by someone related to the person by blood, marriage, or adoption (unless they meet specific 245D exclusions)

  • Social activities that are purely for recreation or entertainment
