Individual Home Support (IHS)

Individualized Home Supports (IHS) are services that offer assistance and/or training in specific areas of daily life to help individuals live more independently in the community. There are three types of IHS services:

  • IHS without training

  • IHS with training

  • IHS with family training

Community Living Support Categories
Support can include:

  • Cueing and guidance

  • Help maintaining existing skills

  • Instruction and hands-on assistance with daily living tasks

  • Support with organizing and participating in community activities

  • Direct supervision while engaging in covered services

All support must fall within approved service areas and address needs identified in the person’s assessment (e.g., MnCHOICES).

Training Services
Training focuses on building and strengthening the person’s skills for independent living. This includes:

  • Learning new skills

  • Retaining current abilities

  • Improving functioning in community settings

Training must also align with covered service areas and address the needs outlined in the individual’s assessment.

Direct Supervision
This involves active monitoring and oversight while the person is participating in a covered service. It does not include supervision when the person is not engaged in a qualifying service.
